Review: The Death of Planet 86 by L.C. Mortimer

A girl walks into an alien bar, and the bartender says, “One more week until Planet 86 is gone.”

Wait a minute, that’s not how that joke is supposed to go, but that’s exactly what’s happening to the woman who just escaped from a nightmare.

Veronica Elizabeth was kept in a zoo for aliens for almost a year. When she finally manages to escape, she discovers that her home planet’s very existence is being threatened. The Prince of Planet Sapphire wants to destroy her home world, and Veronica is the only one who can stop it.

She has to travel through chaos and disorder, across the very galaxy she grew to love as a child, and she has to make it home in time to warn her own queen about the coming invasion.

If she doesn’t make it in time to warn her fellow citizens, it will mean the death of Planet 86.

Author’s note: The Death of Planet 86 is an LGBTQIA sci-fi novel featuring nonbinary and lesbian characters.

My thoughts

Ummm…yes, I want more of these types of books!

Did you know that all Martians are non-binary?! Mom, I’m an alien (hilarious laughter at myself).

The Death of Planet 86 is a clean and quest driven lesbian romance. L.C. Mortimer hooked me in with the diabolical plot. There are more twists and turns in this story than driving on Vermont Street in San Francisco. Holy sugar.

Mortimer gives us a twin story where they don’t allow it to fall into a familiar trope. I don’t want to give anything away as this is a quick read, but family dysfunction is a serious business if you are a royal. This tale also includes lots of diversity even within their own diversity.

We get to hear everyone’s voices and it really flushes out the story. I will say that hearing Blue’s story hit hard as it is about their time in captivity. Be prepared for the heart squeeze.

Mortimer hooked me and now I want to know what is next. I think Vex and Veronica’s story should continue. I actually want to read about Eva’s time while Veronica was away and her relationship with a certain someone. The Death of Planet 86 is a fun action packed sci fi suspense book. I loved the ride.

I received a free copy of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
