Review: Through the Storms by Skye MacKinnon and Laura Greenwood

Bullied and lonely, beithir shifter Amber is not having the best of times at Ben Vair, a college for supernatural teenagers. Until Izban arrives, a mage who is much more than he seems… and his blue hair is rather sexy, too.

But when she agrees to help him on his quest, she gets more than she bargained for.

Which may not be such a bad thing.

My thoughts

College can be like high school, especially if you are different. Skye MacKinnon and Laura Greenwood show us how you can try and remain true to yourself even if you want to just take a bite out of someone (laugh) with their shifter Amber.

I really like Amber. She is funny, smart, and game for about anything. She has managed to adapt to her surroundings even if it isn’t pretty. She questions authority when it might get her noticed. She also befriends things that go bump in the night.

I am not sure about Izban yet. Izban still has a chance to make his mark on me (chuckle – that came out a lot fresher than I intended). His intentions are questionable.

The storyline is spot-on. MacKinnon and Greenwood threw in a surprise which got even me – totally did not see it coming. It even took me a minute to go, “Hey! Wait a minute!” Yeah, I was slow on the uptake in this one. Smh.

I will warn you that this ends on a cliff-hanger. A really good suspenseful ending after an interesting battle that Amber has on her own. I cannot wait to see where MacKinnon and Greenwood are leading me. If you know…don’t tell me.

I received a free copy of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
