Mini-Reviews: The Holidays with Laura Greenwood, Lia Davis, and L.A. Boruff

The Holidays with Laura Greenwood, Lia Davis, and L.A. Boruff

Courting A Witch by Laura Greenwood

A Yuletide ball filled with vampires

When given the chance of a lifetime to go to the vampire Yuletide ball with Heath, Daphne jumps at the opportunity, even if she’s going to be the only witch there.

At first, she finds herself entranced by the beauty of the ball, until catastrophe strikes the Christmas tree and it’s up to Daphne to save the day.

Courting A Witch is part of the “Grimalkin Academy: Catacombs” series and is an optional Christmas story involving vampires and witches. It is a fun happy ever after story set approximately a year after the end of Catching A Warlock.13

Courting A Witch is a cute holiday addition to the “Grimalkin Academy: Catacombs” series. Heath and Daphne head to a Yuletide ball where there are some surprising guests for us who have read the series and some of the other series (more on that below if you want a spoiler or two) and for Daphne. Plus there is the usual catastrophe that Daphne ends up in the middle of. Laura Greenwood gives us a glimpse of happiness with no angst for the holiday season. I have to agree with Daphne on her best date ever statement. It definitely warmed my heart…and got me thinking. (laugh) (Drowlgon Press 23 December 2020, p. 49). a

Cookies for Satan by Lia Davis and L.A. Boruff

Part-time bookstore clerk, part-time author, necromancer in training, and full-time caretaker of a ghoul are titles that Ava Harper never dreamed of applying to herself.

Even with all the crazy going on around her, she’s determined to make this Christmas as normal as possible—without raising the dead or some other fiasco.

When her best friend’s wife comes up with the idea to throw a community-wide holiday party, Ava is all in. After all, the holidays have been a dark time for her ever since her husband died. This year will be different. She has a new start in life with family and friends, new and old.

Then someone has the bright idea to conjure the real Saint Nick to surprise the kids. But the surprise is on Ava when the spell goes wrong and she summons the devil himself.

Christmas in Shipton Harbor will never be the same again.13

A paranormal series starring an over-forty heroine who can slay with magic? Count me in.

Lia Davis and L.A. Boruff team up to give us “Witching After Forty” series. Cookies for Satan introduces us to Ava, her ghoul butler, her necromancer trainer, best friends, and of course her cat Snoozle.

Single since her husband passed away five years ago, Ava has moved back to her hometown to live. Kicking off the holiday season with a party seems like a really good idea until unexpected guests show up.

Davis and Boruff manage to give us characters of depth in this holiday novella. There is humor and snarkiness. Cookies for Satan is a just good fun holiday treat. Well except for inviting Santa Claus to a party.

This is a novella so the action is quick. There is an ongoing romance in the background that if we read the other books in the series we would probably appreciate the holiday kiss just as much as Ava. (chuckle)

Cookies for Satan is a nibble of the series and just like with one bite, it leaves you wanting more.
