Review: History of Magic by L.C. Mawson

The Amazons are coming to Ember Academy to test Amelia and determine if she is safe to live or not.

Cover: MoorBooks Design

Amelia is still reeling from Ms. Maltere’s betrayal. Her protector is in coma. Natalie has recovered. Unfortunately, Amelia is still wearing the scars from the curse that backfired on her saving her mother. Now it is time to confess to her friends what she has done before they hear it from anyone else.

There are severe repercussions for the Academy due to Amelia’s actions and one of them is a visit from the Amazons. They will determine whether the school will stay open. They are also there to test Amelia as she should not have so much power.

Amelia now has to hide who she is while being tested by people who may or may not want her dead. Then there are other repercussions from the curse that she cannot tell her friends about. While other curses change, some remain the same.

Amelia gains an enemy, yet gains another ally. This time she is battling the Amazons and she needs all of the help she can get.

Once again L.C. Mawson sucks me into the life at Ember Academy for Young Witches in the History of Magic. I love this series. It has a little bit of everything and Mawson balances it flawlessly. There is action, much like Tomb Raider. There is drama and sadly family drama too. There is romance. There is magic which is pretty cool.

There are a lot of real-life issues that we all deal with or have dealt with in life. There is one character I want to throat-punch as does I think every other character in the group of friends. This book explains a lot of how the magic world split as just as we are split in this world, bigotry plays a big part in their world too.

Amelia is the kick-butt friend you want on your side. She may still be finding her way, but she sticks. I cannot wait to see what is coming next because even Esme seemed worried. (gives me chills- yay!)

I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
